ATELIER / THE WORKSHOP
PRECISION AS A DISCIPLINE.
OBJECTS BUILT TO A MUSEUM STANDARD.
SPECIMIX is a single-room atelier producing kinetic objects for permanent collections and private desks. We engineer frictionless mechanisms, anti-gravity instruments, and optical impossibilities — each one isolated, precise, hypnotic. Nothing decorative. Nothing disposable.
Every object begins as a constraint problem: how to sustain motion without a motor, hold mass against gravity without a wire, or fold space into a surface that has no end. The answer is always geometry, tolerance, and material discipline. We machine from solid billet, never cast. We calibrate by hand, never automate. A single unit can take eleven hours of bench time before it earns a serial number.
We do not produce in volume. We do not take commissions. We release objects when they meet a standard we can defend — and retire them when we can improve them. The vault is small by design.
HOW WE BUILD
Parametric CAD modelling to 0.01 mm tolerance. Every surface, mass, and centre of gravity computed before material is touched.
5-axis CNC from solid billet — aluminium, titanium, or steel. No castings, no composites, no compromise.
Each mechanism tuned by hand. Bearings seated, magnets aligned, fluids balanced. A single unit can take eleven hours.
Final inspection, serialisation, and packing into a custom-milled foam insert. Shipped insured, signature required.
MATERIALS
The vault is open. Every object ships within 48 hours, insured.
